The 12th of May is Florence Nightingale’s birthday, and it has become the International Day of the Nurse - in fact in many places, nursing staff are celebrated throughout the month of May! Nurses’ Day is such an important event in our calendar, and we had so much fun celebrating and honouring our nurses at KDH.
Our new Deputy Director of Nursing, Mrs Anthony, lead the way; Mrs Aletta Brown, the keynote speaker, said nurses are not the “Backbone of the Health System”, but rather the “Heartbeat”. We couldn’t agree more and are so grateful to all the nurses of KDH.
We sang and danced, declared the Nurses’ Pledge and enjoyed delicious food together.
Many thanks to:
Dr Nebs for his generous contribution of rice and curry for all – we appreciate you and your constant generosity.
Smith & Nephew for muffins. https://www.smith-nephew.com/en-za
And all the kind donors who responded to a Friends of KDH appeal to support our nurses.
Friends of KDH gave every nurse a voucher to come and spend at our pop-up clothing store. There was a buzz in the air as the KDH nurses came to redeem their Nurses’ Day vouchers, and we were so happy to see the smiling faces of our hardworking nurses. It was a great finale to Nurses’ Month celebrations at KDH.
